When We Are Closed
If you think you need a doctor when the surgery is closed, you should stay at home and telephone the usual surgery phone number on (01274 662441).
You will be connected to the Out-of-Hours Service, initially via the NHS 111 service where advice will be given, but for those needing further clinical assessment and on-going care the call will then be transferred to Local Care Direct.
You can also visit the NHS 111 website.
For out of hour’s emergencies in the evenings or at weekends, you may be requested by the Emergency on Call Service to visit a centre provided by the Out-of-Hours service. A doctor will still do a home visit if after consultation with you it is thought necessary. For simple problems you may be offered telephone advice.
Please note – patients will only be seen at the centres if they have been given an appointment by the emergency service.
Please note that the local hospital accident and emergency department should not be used under any circumstances other than an emergency – irresponsible use of this facility results in long delays for treatment with the possibility of extreme consequences if this delays treatment of a real emergency.
Out-of-hours services are generally busy so please think carefully before asking to see a doctor and only do so if you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re-opens.
In a genuine emergency you should call 999. Chest pains and / or shortness of breath constitute an emergency.
